About the client

People's Association is a statutory board in Singapore that promotes community bonding and social cohesion through a wide range of grassroots programmes and initiatives.

With multiple teams producing outreach and communications materials, there is a constant need for clear, engaging, and visually consistent content across different platforms and community touchpoints.

The Objective

The People's Association sought to equip its teams with practical design skills to support their day-to-day communications and outreach efforts.

With increasing demand for digital and printed materials, the organisation aimed to:

  • Improve the overall quality and consistency of visual communications
  • Enable teams to create design assets quickly without relying on external vendors
  • Standardise design practices across different departments and teams
  • Build confidence in using accessible design tools for everyday use

The goal was to empower staff to produce effective visuals that clearly communicate messages to the community.

The Solution

The team at Hustle designed and delivered a hands-on training programme focused on practical design workflows using Canva.

The training was structured to be highly accessible and immediately applicable, catering to participants with varying levels of design experience.

Key training areas included:

  • Design Fundamentals for Non-Designers — Understanding layout, typography, colour usage, and visual hierarchy to create clear and engaging designs
  • Creating Marketing & Communication Materials — Designing posters, social media graphics, and event visuals aligned with organisational messaging
  • Using Canva Efficiently — Leveraging templates, brand kits, and built-in tools to speed up design workflows while maintaining consistency
  • Practical, Hands-On Exercises — Participants worked on real use cases relevant to their roles, allowing them to apply what they learned immediately

The sessions focused on building both technical familiarity with Canva and a stronger foundation in visual communication.

The Results

Following the training, participants were able to produce design assets more confidently and efficiently in their day-to-day work.

Key improvements included:

  • Faster creation of posters, social media visuals, and internal communication materials
  • More consistent use of design elements such as colours, fonts, and layouts
  • Reduced reliance on external designers for basic design needs
  • Improved clarity and effectiveness in communicating messages visually

The programme enabled teams to take greater ownership of their design work, resulting in more agile and responsive content creation across different initiatives.
