NARRATIVE WRITING

Learn to write stories that move people. Master human-centred storytelling with the team behind Rice Media.

About the

Course

The best writing doesn't just inform. It makes people feel something.

In a world where everyone is publishing, the stories that cut through are the ones that are deeply, unmistakably human. They find the person behind the news, the emotion behind the issue, the detail that makes a reader pause and think, "that's exactly it."

Rice Media has been doing this for years. Their stories on Singaporean life, identity, culture, and society don't just generate traffic, they generate conversation. And in this 2-day workshop, they're opening up the playbook.

You'll learn how to identify the human angle hiding inside everyday events, craft narrative hooks that pull readers in from the first line, structure stories with emotional arc and clarity, and adapt your writing for the digital formats that matter today, from social media captions to short-form video concepts.

This isn't a journalism course. It's a writing workshop for anyone who wants to tell stories that actually land.

Some of the topics covered in this workshop include:

  • Finding story ideas from current affairs, social trends, and everyday observations
  • Identifying the human impact and emotional core behind headlines
  • Crafting engaging narrative hooks and compelling story openings
  • Structuring stories for clarity, emotional resonance, and reader connection
  • Writing for social media, short-form articles, and digital platforms
  • Translating written narratives into simple video storytelling concepts
  • Planning short mobile-shot narrative content
  • Practising responsible and ethical storytelling about real-world issues
