A Guide to SkillsFuture Credits

ON THIS PAGE

Have you used your SkillsFuture Credit yet — or are you not sure how much you even have?

The scheme has changed a good deal since it started, and some of what you will find written about it online is out of date. This guide sets out what is in your account today, what has expired, and how to spend it.

What Is SkillsFuture?

SkillsFuture is a national movement in Singapore built on a simple idea: learning does not stop when formal education does.

It gives Singaporeans credit to spend on approved courses, subsidises course fees directly, and supports people who take time off work to retrain.

The movement is administered by the Skills and Workforce Development Agency (SWDA), the statutory board formed on 1 July 2026 when SkillsFuture Singapore merged with Workforce Singapore. If you come across the old name SSG in older guides, this is the same body.

How much SkillsFuture Credit do I have?

Three separate things can sit in a SkillsFuture account, and only two of them still exist.

#1 — Opening Credit: $500, no expiry

Every Singapore Citizen aged 25 and above received an opening SkillsFuture Credit of $500. It has no expiry date, and it can be used on top of the course fee subsidy you already qualify for.

#2 — SkillsFuture Credit (Mid-Career): $4,000 for those aged 40 and above

Since 1 May 2024, Singaporeans aged 40 and above have a further $4,000 of SkillsFuture Credit (Mid-Career). It does not expire.

The older $500 Additional SkillsFuture Credit (Mid-Career Support) no longer exists on its own: its expiry date was lifted and any remaining balance was merged into this $4,000 credit on 1 May 2024.

This credit is deliberately narrower than the opening credit — it is meant for training with a clear employment outcome, such as courses under the SkillsFuture Career Transition Programme, programmes at Institutes of Higher Learning, and other selected training. Check the course listing on MySkillsFuture before you count on it.

#3 — The one-off $500 top-up: expired

The one-off top-up of $500 given to Singaporeans aged 25 and above as at 31 December 2020 expired on 31 December 2025. If you did not use it, it is gone — it does not roll into anything else.

What else can help pay for training?

Mid-career training allowance (40 and above)

If you are 40 or older and take an eligible full-time, long-form programme, the SkillsFuture Mid-Career Training Allowance replaces part of the income you give up while training.

It pays 50% of your average income over the previous 12 months, with a floor of $300 and a ceiling of $3,000 a month, for up to 24 months across your lifetime. From 1 March 2026 it also covers selected part-time training.

You need to have had earned income in the last 12 months to qualify.

Support for lower-wage workers

The Workfare Skills Support (WSS) scheme covers workers aged 30 and above earning an average gross monthly income of not more than $3,000, living in a property with an annual value of $21,000 or below.

Under WSS (Basic), the training allowance is $10.50 per training hour from July 2026, capped at 180 training hours per eligibility period. WSS (Level-Up) goes further for longer programmes: up to $18,000 a year for full-time training, or $3,600 a year part-time.

A Training Commitment Award of up to $800 is also available from 1 July 2026 — but from that date it is paid only to trainees who complete a full qualification, not individual modules.

Post-Secondary Education Account (PSEA)

The PSEA is an MOE-administered account that many younger Singaporeans still have money sitting in.

It can pay for approved courses, and if your SkillsFuture Credit does not cover a course fee, PSEA can cover the remainder — SkillsFuture Credit is always drawn on first.

Two things worth knowing: the account is closed in the middle of the year you turn 31, and whatever is left is transferred to your CPF Ordinary Account, where it follows CPF rules instead. You can also ask MOE to transfer the balance to a sibling's PSEA when the option letter arrives.

How do I check my SkillsFuture Credit balance?

Log in to MySkillsFuture with Singpass and open your SkillsFuture Credit summary under Account Details.

Each credit is listed separately, so you can see your opening credit and, if you are 40 or above, your SkillsFuture Credit (Mid-Career).

How do I find courses I can claim on?

Use the course directory on MySkillsFuture and filter by funding type — a course has to be approved for the specific credit you intend to use, which is where most claims come unstuck.

Quotation marks around a search phrase narrow the results, and the filters on the left let you sort by duration, fee and training provider.

Every Hustle course is SkillsFuture-eligible. Our funding page has a calculator that shows what each one costs you after subsidy, and the SkillsFuture funding guide explains how the subsidy and the credit stack.

How do I submit a SkillsFuture Credit claim?

After you enrol in a course:

1. Log in to MySkillsFuture with Singpass and go to SkillsFuture Credit.

2. Click Proceed to Submit a Claim, or open View Course Enrolments to see the courses your training provider has already registered for you.

3. Select the course and click Submit Claim.

4. Check the course run and start date, enter the payment details and upload your supporting documents.

5. Accept the terms and conditions and submit the declaration.

Claims can normally be made from 60 days before the course starts until the course ends, so it is worth submitting early rather than after the fact.

Conclusion

Your opening credit and, if you are 40 or above, your $4,000 mid-career credit are sitting there with no expiry date — which is exactly why they are so easy to forget about.

Put them towards a course, or ask us through the chat on this page and we will tell you what a specific course will cost you after funding.
